Silifke is a town and district of Mersin Province in Turkey.

Known as "Seleucia" in the history, Silifke was founded by Seleucus I Nicator in the early 3rd century BC. Later the city expanded to the nearby settlement Holmi(Taşucu). Selecuia was a famous center for early Christians with its tombs. The Arabs conquered the city in 705 and followed by the Byzantines. Seleucia remained as a titular see of the Roman Catholic Church until 1971. In the 11th century, the city was conquered by the Seljuks. Later it went through a period of struggling between Armenians, Byzantines, Crusaders and Turks. In the 13th century, Seleucia was under the control of Hospitallers, but in 1471 Ottoman General Gedik Ahmet Pasha captured the city.
Silifke was a province centre of İçel (Mersin) until 1930.
Located at 80 km west of the city of Mersin, on the west end of Çukurova, Silifke is situated near the Mediterranean coast, on the banks of the Göksu River.
Nearest airport is in Adana which is located about 140 km away.

The main highway between Antalya and Adana D400 is the main connection to the city. There is also another highway coming from Konya in north called D715.
