Niğde is a city in the Central Anatolia Region of Turkey. Located in the south central Turkey, Niğde has been a strategic zone for the trade from southern Anatolia to the inner Anatolia and the Black Sea coast. It's located between the mountains Melendiz in the west and the Taurus in the east. This passage was called as the famous "Cilician Gates" in the antiquity.

Throughout the history, Niğde hosted different cultures including Hittites, Assyrians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and Turks. By the end of 11th century, under the Seljuks sovereignty, Nigde becomes an important and prosperous city. In the early 13th century, it was one of the largest cities in Anatolia. But in the 14th century, during the wars between the Mongols and the Turkmen principality of the Karaman, Nigde was destroyed. Finally in 1467, Ottomans captured the city.
At an elevation of 1,250 metres above sea level, Niğde city is located between the volcanic Melandiz Mountains and the Niğde Massif. It has borders with Konya on the west, Mersin on the south, Adana on the southeast, Kayseri on the northeast, Nevşehir on the north, Aksaray on the northwest.

Terrestrial climate is dominant in Niğde. Summers are hot and dry, winters are cold and snowy.
There are interesting mosques that are worth to see; Alaeddin Camii is a historical mosque from 1203, the Sungur Bey Mosque was built in the 14th century and the Dis Mosque is from the 16th century. There's also Eski Gümüşler monastery which is famous for its Byzantine wall paintings only 6km away from the city center.
There's thermal springs in Çiftehan borough, 80 kilometers from Niğde. Waters of this thermal spring can cure rheumatism and neural, skin, gynecological and stomach diseases.
Aladağlar Park is located on the Nigde-Kayseri main highway. It's a huge park with 55,000 hectares area and has the Demirkazik peak inside. It is the highest point of the middle Taurus range with 3756 meters.
Thursdays are the local market day for Niğde and you can visit the bazaar located around the watchtower on the town`s hill. There are interesting carpets and pileless carpets sold at these markets.
Niğde has its traditional dishes such as "Niğde tavasi", "zomu", "couscous pilaf", "papara", "ogma soup", "mangir soup", "kabak köftesi", "ditme", "tirit" and "ayvan baranası". The original desserts are höşmeri, halveter, kaygana, pekmez, aşüre, zerde, sarımburma, tatlı dürümü, hurma tatlısı, kaşık kayganası,irmik tatlısı, halka tatlı, kuru kayısı tatlısı, tulumba tatlısı, incir tatlısı, köfter tatlısı and cimcik tatlısı.
Bazlama bread is also famous in Niğde. This bread is made of a dough which is rolled out into a circle from 20-25 cm wide and 2-3 mm thick and cooked on a sac or in a tandır.
"Niğde gazozu" is a kind of sweet soda with raspberry flavour.
