Kastamonu is a city in the Black Sea Region of Turkey.

During the Roman period, Kastamonu was known as "Timonion". Back then Romans founded a city of Paphlagonia at the town Taşköprü which is now a district of Kastamonu province and famous for its garlic production.

After Turkish Republic was set up, Kastamonu hosted a historical moment on August 23, 1925 when Atatürk started the Dress Code Revolution as part of new revolutions. He made a speech in the Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi building which is now Archeological Museum.

Located in Black Sea Coast, Kastamonu is surrounded with Sinop on the east, Çorum on the southeast, Çankırı on the south, Karabük and Bartın on the west and Black Sea on the north.

There is the famous Byzantine castle from 12th century and it's like the symbol of Kastamonu.

The 13th century Atabey Mosque and the Ibni Neccar Mosque are interesting to see.

There are renovated old houses in Kastamonu with interesting styles that are worth seeing.

Visit the Ilgaz National Park which is located 63 kms south of Kastamonu. It is a perfect destination for mountaineering and skiing. The Ilgaz Mountain is 2587 m. high and has great view.

See the Kızılırmak river.

Enjoy the beaches of Inebolu and Cide districts and discover the nature around the region.
