Karabük is a city in the Black Sea Region of Turkey.

Karabük had become a province of Zonguldak during the early years of Turkish Republic in 1927. Formerly it was small village of Safranbolu, formed by 13 houses. There was a train station which started to be called "Karabük" in June 1st, 1934. After the foundation of the Iron - Steel Factory in 3 April 1937, Karabük started to grow rapidly and its name became popular all around Turkey. In 1953, it became a district of Safranbolu and later in 1995 Karabük became an official province center of Turkey.
Situated about 100 km south of the Black Sea coast, Karabük is located on the highway between Bartın and Ankara (located about 200km north of Ankara)in the Western Black Sea Region. It has borders with the cities Kastamonu on the east and northeast, Bartın on the northwest, Zonguldak on the west, Bolu on the southwest and Çankırı on the southeast.
The closest airport is in Ankara which is 240 km away.
Railway transportation is available via Turkish Railways (TCDD) [1]. The railways station is about 2km from the city center and can be reached at +90(370)424 1549.
Karabük is located on the Ankara - Istanbul highway. You should take the road exit at the Gerede turn and drive to the city located at 80 km distant.

The city center is small and can definetely be covered by walking.

The climate of Karabük is a combination Black Sea climate and terrestrial climate. The area closer to the sea shows effects of Black sea coast. Other parts in Central Anatolia are mostly very cold in winters and hot and dry in summers.
See the ruins of the ancient Hadrianapolis city (from the Roman civilization period in 64 B.C.) which had been discovered inside the borders of the Eskipazar district. Also you should see the 32 normal sized and 4 large sized tumulus inside the borders of the Karabük Province. The Mencilis Cave in Karabük Bulak Village and Ovacık Karakoyunlu Tombs of the Kings are also worth seeing.
Visit the Iron - Steel Museum that was established in the Yenişehir quarter in 3 April 1984.
See the open-air museum town Safranbolu which is a district of Karabük and Yenice Arboretum which is a delightful open-air forest museum with natural beauties.
Camping at the Yenice Forests in Autumn and enjoy the nature.
Camp in Ulu Plateau and Sarıçiçek Plateau and visit Şeker Canyon and Düzce Canyon.
Do fishing at the Eflani Small lakes.
Do trekking in the Sorkun Plateau, Ulu Plateau, Sarıçiçek Plateau, Boduroğlu Plateau, Avdan Plateau and the Tokatlı and Düzce Canyons passing through the Safranbolu district.
The cuisine of this region is delicious. Gözleme (pancake), kuyu kebab (well kebab), yayım macaroni , su böreği (water pastry), zerde and house made baklava are some samples of the local food.
