Dalyan is a town in Muğla Province of Turkey.

Dating back to the 19th century, the name of "Dalyan" comes from the crawls which means "fish trap and fishing or fish production station".

The ancient city of Caunos (Kaunos) that lies in here has a history dating back to the 3rd Century. Throughout the history different colonies have settled in Dalyan. Kaunos became an important Carian city in 400 B.C. Later Persians, Macedonians, Romans and Byzantines ruled in the region. In 1284, the Seljuks took control and finally by the late 14th century the Ottomans got in charge.

Dalyan is located between the districts of Marmaris and Fethiye on the south-west coast of Turkey. It is an independent municipality within the administrative district of Ortaca in Muğla province.

The closest airport is in Dalaman which is 25 km away from Dalyan.

If you are driving, you can reach Dalyan via Fethiye, Muğla or Marmaris directions by following the traffic signs.

You can take a bus to Ortaca and then by minibuses or public buses you can reach Dalyan in 15 minutes.

There are city buses running between Ortaca and Dalyan for cheap fares. The minibuses are also cheap and can be found easily all day long.

Dalyan is dominated by Mediterrenean climate where summers are hot and dry while winters are warm and rainy.

The ancient city of Caunos stands midway along the channel of Dalyan. Caunos was believed to be the son of Miletus and the Grandson of Apollo. There is an Acropolis surrounded by the city walls, four temples, an Angora, Roman Baths, Palestra and a Cistern. It's highly recommended to avoid the midday sun to visit Caunos.

There are also rock tombs which are the resting place of the Kings of Caunos that are worth to be seen.

Visit Sultaniye Thermal Bath & Mud Baths which is located along the channel of the delta from Köycegiz in Dalyan. The water is 40 degrees C and believed to be used since Hellenistic times, first by the Carians then by the Byzantines because of its healthy benefits.

Enjoy the Iztuzu Beach which is located 12 km from the centre of Dalyan.
