Bolu is a city in the Black Sea Region of Turkey.

Evidences show that history of Bolu starts with the Bithynians. Later it was ruled by the Romans, Byzantines, Seljukians and Ottomans. During its history the city was called Claudiopolis after Roman Emperor Claudius, Honorias in honour of Emperor Theodosius II's younger son Honorius. When Ottomans conquered the region in 1325, they've changed the name into Bolou or Boli.

Located on the highway from Istanbul to Ankara in Black Sea region, Bolu is surrounded by the cities Ankara on the east, southeast and south, Bilecik on the southwest, Sakarya on the west, Düzce on the northwest, Zonguldak and Karabük on the north and Çankırı on the northeast.

The TEM highway, which connects Ankara and Istanbul and the D - 100 highway passes through Bolu.it's easy to reach the city via highway from every location of the country.

Ancient site of Bolu (Bithynium - Claudiopolis)is the first settlement period of the Bolu plain that extends up to the BC 3rd thousands.
Seben Rock Houses are rock houses in the vicinity of Çeltik Creek, Hoçaş, Kaşbıyıklar and Yuva villages of Seben District.
Gerede Asar Castle was constructed during the Byzantine period and is located to the southeast of Örencik Village of Gerede District.
Some of the mosques that are worth visiting are; Büyük Mosque (Yıldırım Beyazıt Mosque), Kadı Mosque, Saraçhane Mosque, İmaret Mosque, Ilıca Mosque, Süleyman Paşa Mosque, Yıldırım Mosque, Kanunî Mosque, Yukarı Tekke Mosque and Eskiçağa Yıldırım Mosque.
Yukarı Taşhan Inn is located at the city center and was constructed by Abdullah Ağa in 1804.
Orta Hamam was constructed by the order of Yıldırım Beyazıt in 1389 and also located at the city center.
Tabaklar Bath was constructed by the order of Tavil Mehmet Paşa in the 16th Century and has two separate sections. Sultan Bath was constructed by the order of Sokullu Mehmet Paşa in the 16th Century. Süleyman Paşa Bath is located in Göynük District and was constructed by the order of Gazi Süleyman Paşa in 1335. Yıldırım Beyazıt Bath was constructed in 1382 and is located in Mudurnu District.
Announced as "Urban Protected Area", the Göynük District hosts a rich number of old Turkish Houses. The Mudurnu District is also announced as Rural Protected Area and has a rich number of old Turkish Houses.

Picnic, camping, sportive line fishing , trekking, yachting, horse riding, phaeton riding and natural ice skating in the winter are the activities of this nature park. The other lakes in the region are; Gölcük Lake, Gölköy Dam Lake, Yeniçağa Lake, Karamurat Lake, Çubuk Lake, Sülük Lake, Sünnet Lake and Karagöl.

Cooks of Bolu have a world-wide fame. There have been so many talented cooks who are from Mengen district of Bolu and therefore the cuisine of the region is not only rich but also delicious. Some of the local foods are; Kabaklı gözleme (marrow pancake), saray helvası (halvah sweets), köpük helvası (froth halvah) of Mudurnu District, the candy bean of Göynük District, Zuchini Compote with Grapes, Müşür Compete, Katık, Water Haurek, Gum bean Soup, Ovmaç Soup, Yoghurt soup, Kaşık Sapı, Palize, Kedi Batmaz, apple and grape of Seben District and the cheese of Mengen District. Bolu is also famous for its desserts; hazelnut candies, chocolate, pine honey, cream and butter.
