Bodrum, formerly known as Halicarnassus, is a very famous night life and summer resort Turkish port town in Muğla Province, in the southwestern Aegean Region of Turkey. It is located on the southern coast of Bodrum Peninsula, at a point that checks the entry into the Gulf of Gökova, and it faces the Greek island of Kos.

The history of Bodrum, known as Halicarnassus or Halicarnassos goes back to the 13th century BC. Excavaties reveal the 5000 year old history of this town. Many civilisations found their home here. Carians for example, Homer tells in his Ilia, that the Carians helped to defend Troya.

The airport - Bodrum/Milas - is 30 km away from Bodrum city centre. Yon can fly there by Turkish Airlines or especially in the summer time you can use several charters to go Bodrum. You can go to Mugla by train , but then you should use bus or taxi to reach Bodrum. It takes 2-3 hours to reach Bodrum by buses.

From all of the international airports close to Bodrum , you may rent a car.

There are many bus operating companies that have regular services to and from Bodrum. The fare is unexpensive and the journey in fully air-conditioned buses. The journey is about 8h30min from Istanbul and about 4h from Izmir. Transportation to Bodrum from all over Turkey through bus services is available. Bus terminal is in the city center. There is a ferry line which you can reach Izmir from Istanbul . Then from Izmir to Bodrum you should again use rentals or buses. Approximately it takes 4 hours from Izmir to Bodrum. There are lots of rent a car companies in Bodrum centre and also you can rent it from the airport. Hertz , Intercity are available.

You can catch the local buses and the shared taxis from the Bodrum centre terminal

If you stay in the centre , you can reach lots of the clubs , restaurants and also the historical places (like castle) by foot max in 20 minutes.

Bodrum Castle : Bodrum was taken by the Turks in 1523. After 1895, the castle was used as a prison. It was converted into a museum, in which, especially the findings of underwater archeology, Mycenean, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantium artifacts are displayed in different sections in chronological order since 1960.
Antique Theatre : Situated in the hillside over looking Bodrum. This theatre whose capacity is around 13.000 was built during Carians' reign in Hellenistic age (330-30 B.C.) The theatre consists of three different sections: a place for audience, a place for an orchestre and the stage. It became an open-air museum after the excavations made in 1973.
Myndos Gate : Located on the west side of Bodrum, this is one of the two entrances of ancient Halikarnassos. Only some parts of the city wall remained until today.

Bodrum Peninsula & Beaches : There are many picturesque beautiful villages and sandy beaches which can be easily reached by minibus (Dolmus in Turkish) leaving from bus station. i.e.Gümbet, Bitez, Ortakent, Kargi and Bagla, Karaincir and Akyarlar, Turgutreis, Kadikalesi, Gümüslük, Yalikavak, Gündogan, Gölköy and Türkbükü, Torba.
Yachting : Private Gulet Charters - If you rent a gulet privately, there will be only you and your group on board with crew. You will decide the itinerary. Depends on the availability, you can embark and disembark in any harbour, such as Bodrum, Marmaris, Göcek, Fethiye and also in Rhodes and Kos (Greek Islands). One way charter is also possible.
Excursions : Following daily and 2 day excursions and sightseeing tours departing from Bodrum are organized by travel agencies in Bodrum. i.e. Ephesus & House of Virgin Mary, Pamukkale, Dalyan & Caunos, Priene & Miletus & Didyma
Diving : Bodrum is surrounded by waters ideal for divers and diving. There is a rich variety of marine life to be seen, while the seabed has many sponge and coral beds of breathtaking beauty.

Sait Fish Restaurant : Sait specialities are always in demand, but in particular the seafood is noted. Pasta (Italian macaroni) is prepared differently with seafood and Sait recommends that you should taste seafood with bulgur (wheat prepared in a special way) rice, grilled calamari and fish soup.

Halicarnassus Disco : One of Turkey's biggest open-air disco where a capacity of 5 thousand people.
