Aydın is a city in the Aegean Region of Turkey.

Founded by the Trallians, Aydın was once called Tralles. The city was destroyed by an earthquake and rebuilt, and controlled by the Spartans, Hittites, Phrygians, Ionians, Lydians, Persians and Romans. In 1186, the Seljuks conquered the region and called the city "Aydın Güzelhisarı". Later Aydınoğulları controlled it and finally in 1426, the Ottomans got in charge and changed the city's name as "Nefs-i Güzel Hisar der Liva-i Aydın".
Located in the Aegean Region, southwestern Turkey, Aydın has borders with Izmir on the north, Manisa on the northeast, Denizli on the east, Muğla on the south and Aegean sea on the west.
