Aydın is a city in the Aegean Region of Turkey.

Founded by the Trallians, Aydın was once called Tralles. The city was destroyed by an earthquake and rebuilt, and controlled by the Spartans, Hittites, Phrygians, Ionians, Lydians, Persians and Romans. In 1186, the Seljuks conquered the region and called the city "Aydın Güzelhisarı". Later Aydınoğulları controlled it and finally in 1426, the Ottomans got in charge and changed the city's name as "Nefs-i Güzel Hisar der Liva-i Aydın".

The ancient cities of Aydın; Nyssa, Alabanda, Priene, Miletus, Tralles, Aphrodisias, Panionium, Didyma, Myus, Iassos, Gerga, Alında, Mastaura (Mastavra), Magnesia and Orthasia are worth seeing.

The cave in Kuşadası district of Aydın is also interesting with some travertine pools and a few small lakes present inside.

Temple of Apollo is located near Didim coastal resort.

Kirazli is a nice traditional Turkish village with beautiful old stone houses.

The most worthy highland villages that are worth seeing are; Paşa Highland, Kahvederesi Highland, Necippazar Highland, Bulgurlu , Sarıcaova, Ömür, Madran, Korumaz Highland and Kavşit Highland.

Enjoy the beaches of Aydın. The most important ones are Tusan, Mocamp, Halk beach, Yılancı Burnu, Karaova, Güzelçamlı, Kalamaki beaches, Odun dock, İlyas Ağa, Nero and Dipheron, Didim Tavşan Burnu, Akbük and Lake Bafa Beach.

If you are into sailing and yachting Kuşadası Harbor is Aydın's gateway to the sea. This 650 boat capacity harbor has got two docks where large cruise ships can dock.

Discover the Zeybek folk art which is a special type of war dance that is performed in a ring to resemble birds with the sounds of the Kiteli and other Turkish folk instruments.
