Anamur is a town and district of Mersin province in Turkey.

Anamur' name comes from Greek "Anemourion" and it means "windmill". The city was founded by the Phoenicians and later controlled by the Assyrians and Hittites. In 12th century B.C., Hittite King Tuthalia IV gave Anemorium to Mattuvata who later established his own kingdom and made Anemorium its capital. But by the end of 12th century, the region was occupied by a Caucasian nomadic tribe called "wind people" by the ancient Greeks. Later the city was conquered by the Phoenicions again. Then the Persians, followed by the Macedonians, Seleucids, Romans and the Byzantines ruled the city. In 13th century, Turkish clan Karamanoğulları conquered the city.
Located on the Mediterranean coast of southern Turkey, Anamur Turkey's southernmost point. The town is situated between Antalya and Mersin.
Nearest airports are in Antalya and in Adana, both about 250 km away from Anamur.

Situated by the shore, on the road to Mersin, Mamure castle (also known as Anamur castle) is located about 7 km southeast of Anamur. It was originally built by the Romans in the 3rd or 4th century A.D., and later used by the Crusaders and Seljuks, it is reported that this is one of the most scenic castles in Turkey.
Anemurium, the remains of the ancient city, is located 6 km southwest of Anamur, on the coast. Built between circa 100 BC and AD 600, the name "Anemurion" in Greek means “windy cape”. The mosaics and stone walls of the city are worth seeing.
