[edit] History

In the ancient times, it's believed that Alaçatı region was called "Agrilia". Ionians lived in this region in the 7th century B.C. and their golden period was extended by the Romans which effected the early days of Christianity and the birth of the Byzantine art. Ottomans took the control of Alaçatı around the 14th century and by then Alaçatı was referred as a "Yaya-Müsellem" (Infantry-cavalry) type of village which was a type of settlement in direct extension of the army structure. The Greek population was high (reached 12.000 with a Greek majority) in the region and they used to call it; the village of "Alatzata". The village was an an important center of production and trade because of its vineyards and wines. After the Balkan Wars of 1912-1913, most of the Greeks immigrated to Greece. And with the population exchange agreement between Turkey and Greece in 1923, Alaçatı's population changed once again.
