Ağrı is a city in the Eastern Anatolia Region of Turkey.

Located on the eastern border of Turkey, Ağrı has been a settlement place for different civilizations since the ancient times. Hurris were one of the oldest civilisations that settled in Ağrı (between 1340-1200 BC). In the middle of the 7th century, Arabs took control of the area and the Byzantines followed them. Later in 1054, the Seljuks conquered the city from the Byzantines. During the Ottoman Empire, the province was a sanjak called Doğu Bayazıt. It became a city center in 1927. Taking its name from the Mount Ağrı, the city called as Ağrı in 1938.

Located on the eastern borders of Turkey, Ağrı has borders with Iran on the east, Kars on the north, Erzurum on the north-west, Muş and Bitlis on the south-west, Van on the south and Iğdır on the north-east.

See the worlwide famous Ağrı Dağı (Mount Ararat) which is 90 km to the south of the city, close to the town of Doğubeyazıt.

Visit the Buz Cave which is located on the slope of Mount Ağrı, near Telçeker town.

Enjoy the thermal centers of Ağrı. There are Yılanlı, Davut and Köprü thermal springs in Diyadin where the spring waters are beneficial for rheumatism and dermatological problems.

Buy mohair gloves and socks that are great for cold winters.

The local cuisine is very rich and tasty. Some of the local dishes are Halise (made of wheat and rabbit meat), Hıngel ( kind of ravioli dish with mince), Ayran Aşı (soup with yoghurt and wheat), Selekeli (meat dish) and famous Abdigör meatballs.

There are some cafes where mostly men gather to drink tea or coffee. Please note that there are no bars located around the city.
