Weather you are coming to Turkey for a business trip or stopover for your flight to Middle East, I am sure you are wonderding what can be done in Istanbul in a short time. Because Istanbul offers a lot more than few days trip, and it is really hard to make a good trip plan when you list lots of museums, attractions, restaurants, to do things. What to see in Istanbul ? Where to eat in Istanbul or go for shopping? All these questions come up to your mind and then a stressfull search begins on Google. You check reviews, Turkish travel agencies offering Istanbul tours, Istanbul travel packages and sightseeing.

Istanbul offer lots of activities as it is one of the largest populated cities of the world. You can enjoy a leisury night cruise on the Bosphorus and entertained by traditional dancers or dine in an elegant restaurant on the shores of Marmara Sea. Why not to join crazy parties held in Taksim Square, Nisantasi and Bebek? Wherever you go, whatever you do we are sure you will have the best memories of your life and enjoy a lifetime travel experience.

    To help your trip plan our Turkey Tour Specialists created a list of things to do in Istanbul;

1.Take a Walking Tour in Sultanahmet Square

Start from the Topkapı Palace was the seat of Ottomans power for over three centuries. The must-see features are the Harem, Imperial Treasury and the views from the innermost courtyard. Its open everyday except Thursdays from 09:00 till 17:00. Entrances fee for Topkapi Palace is 20 Liras and 15 Liras for the Harem. Audio guides are available in ticket office with additional cost.

From the palace move to The Hagia Sophia Museum (St. Sophia Church or Mosque) which was first a Byzantine church, then Ottoman mosque and now a Turkish museum. Today the mosaic walls and vaulted chambers merely hint at its former glory; the building is pretty shabby when compared with neighboring mosques, but its historical relevance shines through. It will take at least 1 hour to complete your visit. Its open everyday except Monday from 09:00 till 17:00. Entrance fee for Hagia Sophia is 20 Liras. Audio guides are available in ticket office with additional cost.

Next visit Yerebatan Sarayi (‘sunken palace’) or Underground Cistern is the spectacular location from the 1963 Bond film, From Russia with Love. Remember the scene where 007 rowed a small boat through a forest of marble columns? That was filmed at this sixth-century underground Byzantine cistern. Its open everyday and the entrance fee for Underground Cistern is 10 Lira per person.

I am sure you will feel a bit hungry. Then tuck into Ottoman Cuisine for your lunch. Authentic Turkish food is a far cry from the greasy kebabs that are peddled abroad; prepare your palate for a heady mix of culinary influences. As you will continue to your visits around Sultanahmet Square we will recommend you to try Sarnic Restaurant just behind the Hagia Sophia. Or if you wish to have a light lunch, you can try “Doner” made of roasted chicken or lamb meat cooked on a vertical spit. I am sure it will be your favourite food in Turkey.

After filling your stomach, its time for shopping? Of course in Grand Bazaar will provide an memorable experience. Created during the 14th century, Grand Bazaar is located in the heart of the old city and is one of the world’s largest covered markets, with thousands of shop lining its 65 streets and alleys. Best buys : leather, spices ,jewellery and, of course, carpets. Silk, wool or cotton , Turkish carpets are considered works of art, and if you do fancy trying to bag a bargain rug, be prepared to drink tea and haggle. Serious shoppers should go armed with a notepad, a calculator and plenty of time when visiting the Grand Bazaar because they will definitely make you spend your money!

Finally end your Sultanahmet adventure in a traditional Turkish Bath called “ Hamam” where you are paying a near-naked stranger to scrape, knead and pummel your flesh as you lie on a steamy slab of marble is one of Istanbul’s hedonistic highlights. As a result, it will be your lifetime experience and relaxation which will make you sleep like a baby. There are various Turkish Baths around the Old Town such as ; Cemberlitas, Cagaloglu and recently renovated Hurrem Sultan Hamami. You should expect a fee for the entrance (around 35 to 50 Liras) and extra fee for the scrub and massage which is open to bargain.

    2. Discover Istanbul is the city in Two Continents

You can begin the day with a visit to Galata Tower originally named the Tower of Christ, the Galata Tower was built in 1348 at the apex of fortified walls. In the 1960s, the tower was restored and you can enjoy 360-degree viewing gallery, with commanding views of the entire sprawling metropolis.

Use Old Cable Car called “Funicular” takes you from Tunel Station to Karakoy. After a short walk you will reach to the bridge with crowds of fisherman fishing on the Bosphorus. Istanbul is the only city settled in two continents ( Europe and Asia) and separated by the Bosphorus. A truly relaxing way of getting across one of the world’s busiest waterways is to take one of cruises along the Bosphorus from Eminonu. Alight ashore at Besiktas, Ortakoy and Bebek along the way to take in the lush parks, palaces and waterside mansions. The fee for the ticket vary from 10 to 15 Liras per person depending which ferry you will choose. There are timetables and length ( 1 hour or 2 hours) up to your choice.

On your return from the cruise, you must definitely shop in the Spice Market (Egyptian Bazaar) where you will have another adventure with pushy traders hustling their oily perfumes, cheap gold and Turkish delights renamed as ‘Turkish Viagra’, as well as pistachios, nuts, honey-covered mulberries and dried figs stuffed with walnuts.

Take a stop at Turkish Coffee shop to try local coffee boiled in a miniature copper beaker and served in porcelain cups, it packs the kick of a double espresso. I am sure they also offer hookah or ‘hubbly-bubbly’ narghile. Try one even if you’re not a smoker, and if feeling truly intrepid go the whole hog and opt forTurkish coffee.

After tasting coffee or narghile, you are ready to spin with the Whirling Dervishes. Sufi music is one of Turkey’s best-known cultural exports but the Whirling Dervishes sect is technically outlawed and therefore rarely seen in the city. You can watch the Whirling Dervishes in Hodja Pasa Culture Center is located at the center of Historical peninsula of Istanbul and was converted from a 550 years old historical turkish bath. The entrance fee is 50 Liras per person and they have program every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

End the day with a hang out under the Galata Bridge which forms the vital link between the two sides of European Istanbul, while its lower deck – directly under the walkway – is home to restaurants, bars and tea-houses with ringside waterfront seating for boat watching and cheap beers. Comparing the other countries on the Sea Side Istanbul can be a bit more expensive at Sea Food. If you are not really fun of sea food menu, can also try Hamdi Restaurant offer delicious tastes of traditional Turkish cuisine. The main course from 20 Liras to 40 Liras. Reservation may be helpful to have table on the terrace with wonderful view of the city. (Kalçin Sok. 17,Eminonu Istanbul Phone: 0212 528 0390)

    3. Escape from the hustle and bustle of Istanbul on the idyllic Princes Islands
A 90-minute ferry ride from Istanbul brings visitors to Buyukada, largest of nine small islands collectively known as the Princes’ Islands. Tourists come here to enjoy the serenity of the leafy , traffic-free lanes. The Princes’ islands are the perfect contrast to the busy city and come alive in the summer with local families, enjoying the verdant scenery and attractive beaches. Greeks, Armenians and Jews still rub shoulders with Turks in the local squares, and churches are more numerous than mosques. Enjoy a cold beer and some fresh fish at one of the seafront restaurants before heading back to mainland. Ferries available either from Karakoy or Kabatas ports.

On your return from the island, you can jump into the unique nightlife of Istanbul. The British down pints in pubs, the French guzzle wine in brasseries, and the Greeks smash plates in tavernas. The Turks make merry in the “Meyhane”, the age-old Istanbul version of a tapas bar, a place to indulge in meze, drink raki and sway to some fasıl folk music. Many joints work on waiter’s recommendations instead of menus and the city’s most famous meyhane district is the Çiçek Pasajı (Flower Passage), an elegant 19th century arcade located just off Istiklal Caddesi. We recommend Boncuk, which specializes in Armenian dishes and features live fasil music.

I am sure these 3 days will not be enough but a good introduction for your next trip to Istanbul. If you worry about making all these on your own, just let http://www.TurkeyTourSpecialist.com to help you to tailor your Istanbul tour or check our Istanbul City tours and Istanbul travel packages to make your trip easier.
