Hi,
First of all you should go see some rugs at your local dealer.
check the prices and the quality in your country.
and then educate yourself with the terms, sizes, colors, etc.

and then you can get very good deals in istanbul.
If you need a professional help, you can always contact me at calledman007 at yahoo dot com

cheers

I will be travelling to Turkey in less than two months and would like to buy a fairly large rug for my home. Any thoughts on whether it would be easier to get a good deal in Istanbul or elsewhere outside Istanbul?

There is another thing I know. I'm not sure about it, but you might just want to google it. If you ship something to yourself from another country, you don't really have to pay any tax. Oh, by the way, there are lot's of real things(!) in Turkey

There are plenty of boutiques and "real" merchandise in Turkey. I always
plan a trip every year just to shop. But do not send it unless it it is a large item shipping might be too complicated. Do what I do travel with empty suitcase and return with them filled. I live in New York so trust me I know the
tricks.

just shop until you drop

Are there any designer stores in Istanbul where knock-offs are not sold but the real item are? stores like prada, LV, gucci, fendi, etc? I remember when we went to italy and fracne, everything was cheaper than here in america, I was thinking because of the taxes to ship it overseas and such. is it cheaper in turkey too?

This is just a little warning especially for first time visitors to Turkey.

Turkey is reknowned as a "Shoppers Paradise" but be careful as the airports are extremely strict about the weight of your case on your departure.

I have seen people charged anything up to 250 euro for excess baggage in both Izmir and Dalayman airports. I saw two women charged 120 euro each in May this year. Of course you can try the old trick of putting on as many layers as you can possibly wear but it's not practical or comfortable! If you cannot pay then they will not carry your luggage.

Many peole are not aware of this and are really caught out, and it can really put a damper on the end of your holiday

So just so you all know.............happy shopping just be careful.
