If you want to know a little more about the regional wars and their influence, you shouldn't skim Troy.

You dont need to plan ahead but it would be nice have some ideas about what to do, what to see.
February is off season for tourism so you dont need to make reservations. But on the other hand it will rain and maybe snow most of the time. So traveling can be hard.
I would recommend Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale and Ephesus. This is like a half Turkey tour and can be easily done in 16 days.

My girlfriend and I are going to Turkey at the end of February. We havn't set any kind of itinerary and we will be there for 16 days. if anyone has any info on there experiences in egypt that they might think helpful (places to see, booking day trips, boat trips, places to avoid etc. etc.) Part of me just wants to plan it as we go but I'm not sure if that is the best idea.

I would recommend a guide only because you will waste so much time just located the places that you will probably end up fustrated. At least get a daily guide. They work day to day. this way you can have some time by yourselves and sometime to get to know the area.

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to Turkey in february. Neither of us are experienced' travellers as such, especially in non-western countries. We would like to spend between 1 and 2 weeks travelling, seeing the main sights but also having some down time. We like to be semi-organised but are not sure if a scheduled tour is for us.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is it so hard to organise independantly?

Thanks
